12 Engagement Party Games That Are Actually Pretty Fun - Hummingbird Wedding Advice (2024)

Are you looking for engagement party games? You’re in the right place.

Not every couple has an engagement party. And, that’s totally okay. It’s also okay to have an engagement party where there are no games played. Many guests don’t mind getting together with some food and drinks to celebrate a newly engaged couple. Engagement party games can be a total after-thought when planning an engagement party. However, there are some benefits to playing them.

Engagement party games can be a fun way for guests to interact. They can also be a great way for guests to get to know each other. This can be a good thing when you’re merging two families together. For some couples, the engagement party is the first time that their families get to meet. What’s a better way to break the ice than a game, right?

12 Engagement Party Games That Are Actually Pretty Fun

This post is going to share with you twelve engagement party games that are actually pretty fun. None of the games are that complicated. In fact, many of them are pretty easy to set up. Plus, they are inexpensive. The purpose of engagement party games is to give your guests a little something to do, while allowing them to work together. Plus, games will make your engagement party a bit more memorable.

Let’s get into it.

1. SCAVENGER HUNT

A scavenger hunt is a super fun way to have your guests work together and get to know each other. It will take the focus off your engagement, and more on the task at hand, too. For some couples, this can be appealing.

The set up for a scavenger hunt is simple. You have guests form into groups, or teams, and then go in search of a list of things. A scavenger hunt is best for an engagement party that is at a large venue where guests can roam, like a park or garden. It’s not ideal for a restaurant where guests are expected to stay seated.

If you’d like to have a scavenger hunt for one of your engagement party games, simply come up with a list of things that guests will have to find. The goal would be for them to find it, and take a photo. The first team to find everything wins a prize. Simple and fun.

2. FAMOUS COUPLES

Famous couples is a popular game at bridal showers, but can also be fun at an engagement party. It’s very simple to do.

All you need to do for this is to have some name labels, and put the names of famous couples on separate labels. For example, one label will say “Cher” and the other may say “Sonny Bono”. Once all your guests have arrived, put a label on everyone’s back. Guests will have to ask each other yes or no questions to try and figure out who they are, so they can find their “other half”. The first couple to find each other wins a prize. You can also play so once everyone finds their other half some champagne gets popped open, or something else fun like that.

The beauty of this game is that it’s easy to set up, and easy to explain. Plus, it gives guests something to talk about when they are first meeting each other.

3. FIND THE OTHER HALF OF THE PHOTO

This game piggy backs on the same concept as the previous one.

All you need to do is have pictures of the newly engaged couple, where they are right next to each other. Cut each photo in half. When guests arrive, give each guest a half of a photo. Their mission is to find the other half, which will be held by another guest. Again, the first guests to find their half win a prize, or maybe there’s a sort of celebration when the last guests find their other half.

You can get cute with this game with a way to have guests put the pictures “back together”, either on a big cork board, or in frames with a little backing and some glue. Afterwards, there can be a big display of the couple and all their photos.

4. CHARADES

Charades is one of those engagement party games that needs the right crowd. However, with the right crowd, it can be really fun.

Charades is perfect for any size party. All you need is some willing players who can split into teams. There are multiple variations on the game. My favorite is to have everyone silently brainstorm about 25 to 30 nouns (people, places, things), and put them on a small piece of paper that is folded in half and placed in a bowl.

In the first round, the player has two minutes to pick words and describe them using as many words as they need to (without actually saying the chosen word). The number of words their team guesses is the points they receive. When the time is up, the next team has a turn. The round is over when all the words are correctly guessed.

In the second round, the player picks from the same bowl of words as round one, and can describe their chosen words using just one other word. Because their team has already heard all the words, it’s not as hard as it sounds. Again, they have two minutes to get their team to guess as many words as possible. The round is over when all the words are guessed. In the third round, the player can only use actions to describe the word, no words at all. Because you’re guessing the same words over and over, it’s easier to guess as the rounds go on.

Look, it is fun, and you can have the words be wedding related for an “engagement spin”.

5. DON’T SAY “WEDDING”

Have you ever been to a baby shower where you can’t say the word “baby”? This works the same way.

The concept is simple. Give each guest a plastic ring, or mardi gras beads, or something like that, on their way into the party. If they say “wedding” they have to give their item to the first person who calls them out on it. At the end of the party, the person with the most plastic rings, or beads, wins a prize.

6. TIE A KNOT WITH A CHERRY STEM

Let’s get a little sexy with our engagement party games!

Okay, I digress. Tying a knot in a cherry stem is not always sexy. However, for the right people, it can be.

Again, this one is easy to set up. Have guests who want to play get together, ready to tie a knot in a cherry stem with nothing but their tongues. The only time they can use their fingers is when they put the stem in their mouths, and take it out.

The guest who can tie the best knot in the shortest amount of time wins. A play on this would be to have only the couple take part in the competition.

7. RING OR GARTER TOSS

To play this engagement party game, you’ll need a little set up. It’s easy to find these types of games online, or you can try and make it yourself.

For a ring or garter toss, you need a large peg, bowling pin, or some other vessel for guests to aim either a plastic ring, or a garter, at. Guests then take turns tossing or flinging the ring or garter at the pegs or pins. They can play as individuals, or as teams. The team that gets the most rings on the pegs, wins.

This is one of those engagement party games you can just leave out on a lawn or patio with a simple sign for directions. Guests can play as they chat, and not take it too seriously.

8. BINGO CARDS

Simple, simple, simple.

At some point during the engagement party, hand guests a bingo card. The card can have squares on them that are pre-filled with words. Similar to a scavenger hunt, guests get to cross off bingo squares when they find another guest who has the things on the cards. For example, the squares may say things like “has a dog”, or “went to college with the groom”.

This type of game will help guests get to know each other and add a little fun of competition while they do it.

9. RING HUNT

Have you ever been to an Easter egg hunt? A ring hunt is similar.

To have a ring hunt, all you need is a bunch of cheap rings. You then hide them around the engagement party. It may be fun to have adults go on the hunt, but this can be a great activity for kids, too. Give a little bucket, bag, or vessel to contain the rings that guests find. The guest with the most rings wins!

10. MEMORY GAME

The memory is a super cute engagement party game.

All you need to do for this one is get together some card stock and pens. Have each guest write down a short memory of themselves with the couple. They should not sign it or say who wrote the memory. Someone then takes the memories out, reads them out loud, and the couple has to guess who wrote it down.

This game is a very cute way to showcase fun memories with those you love. Just be sure that each guest knows that the memories should be shareable, and not too private!

11. NEWLYWED GAME FOR THE NEWLY ENGAGED

Have you ever seen old episodes of the newlywed game? Yep, you guessed it. This is just like that!

To put together the newlywed game, you need to do a little homework. First ask the couples, separately, their answer to questions about their partner. You then ask their partner, publicly and during the party, what they think the answer their partner gave was. The more they get right, the better they are doing. Of course, it’s all in fun, and if the partner gets the question wrong, no biggie. It just means they will have more to learn about each other during their marriage.

12. SHOE GAME

The show game is also one of those fun engagement party games that is all about the couple. No participation is needed from guests.

The set up is simple. Put two chairs together, with their backs touching. Sit the couple in each chair, so they cannot see each other. Each member of the couple holds one of their shoes in on hand, and one of their partner’s shoes in the other. They are then asked a series of questions. The answers they give are indicated by who’s shoe they raise up.

For example, the questions may something like “who sleeps in longer?”, or “who is the better cook?”. The answers can be really funny if they agree, or even disagree. Because the couple can’t see each other, they don’t necessarily know what their partner is saying, but the guests can see it all.

THOUGHTS ON ENGAGEMENT PARTY GAMES

Friends, engagement party games can be really fun. Some of them help your guests get to know each other. Others will give a competitive flair to your event. Some engagement party games will give your guests something passive to do while they chat and enjoy your event. Still more, some are all about the couple and provide entertainment for guests. Have fun with them, and happy wedding planning!
